Notre Dame's Shelby Gilbert Wins Class A/AA Golf Title

Lady Irish Finish Third, CCS Boys Fifth

The Notre Dame girls golf team fell to third place on Wednesday after being tied for first through the first round of the Class A/AA golf tournament in Murfreesboro.

Lady Irish junior Shelby Gilbert maintained her lead and finished first with a score of 146, which was four strokes ahead of the second place finisher.

Patricia Masick of Chattanooga Christian School finished in fourth place. Boyd-Buchanan's Natalie Foster , who won last year, finished sixth.

The Class A/AA boys struggled on Wednesday with Notre Dame's Richard Powell finishing in eighth place for the highest local finishe. CCS's Tyler Hollister was ninth.

The CCS boys team finished fifth overall.

The Class AAA golf tournament will be next week.

Man Tells Police He Just Murdered His Wife

Ammonia Leak At BASF On Amnicola Highway Causes Major Traffic Backups

A leak of anhydrous ammonia at BASF Corporation on Amnicola Highway forced the closure of main thoroughfares Tuesday morning, causing major problems for rush-hour traffic heading into Chattanooga.  The incident began around 4:30 a.m. at the plant when a small fire broke out at an anhydrous ammonia pump.
