John Schuerholz's historic reign as the Braves' general manager has come to a close. But his affiliation with the organization will continue as he will assume the role of team president.

During a Thursday afternoon press conference at Turner Field, Braves chairman and CEO Terry McGuirk announced Schuerholz's promotion and Frank Wren as the club's new general manager.

Wren, who has served as Schuerholz's assistant for each of the past eight seasons, and Schuerholz both signed four-year contracts.

Schuerholz will now lead both the baseball and business sides of the organization.

Schuerholz became the Braves GM before the start of the 1991 season and immediately helped lead them to an unprecedented 14 consecutive division titles. With the 1995 world championship team, he became the only general manager in Major League history to win a World Series in both the American and National Leagues.

Wren has served as Schuerholz's assistant since his one-season stint as the Orioles general manger ended prematurely in 1999. He has handled a majority of contractual negotiations over the past few years and is highly respected by team chairman Terry McGuirk.

"Frank's complete and thorough involvement in our baseball operations these past eight years prepares him well for this new role as general manager," Schuerholz said. "I know Frank will continue to help us put a championship-caliber team on the field and build upon our proud Braves tradition."

Schuerholz's role change won't affect manager Bobby Cox, who has said he'll continue managing at least through the end of the 2008 season.

Georgia Northwestern Falls To Crown 73-60

The Bobcats have exactly 18 days to re-shape their game plan for their first ever NJCAA post-season appearance. A shortened roster struck by injuries throughout the 2011-12 campaign left Georgia Northwestern with only seven uniformed players in the home stand finale Monday night at The R.A.C. versus Crown College (TN).  In their final home game, the Bobcats played an extremely ... Vince Dean Picks Up For Senate Race; Tommie Brown Headed For Contest With JoAnne Favors

Rep. Vince Dean has picked up papers to run for the Senate District 10 seat now held by Democrat Andy Berke. And Rep. Tommie Brown picked up papers to retain her District 28 seat. That sets up a clash with Rep. JoAnne Favors, who picked up for District 28 earlier. Under Republican redistricting, Rep. Favors wound up in the Brown district. Rep. Dean, a Republican from East ... Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)

Roy Exum: What 17 Pills Did To Me

Ah, step into my parlor of first-hand wisdom because, in the School of Hard Knocks, there are priceless lessons that you should know before it becomes your turn to dance. Never in my life have I ever had any back problems but, in early December, I came down with what is called sciatica and I have been a miserable man ever since. There are two big nerves that sprout out of the ... (click for more)
