Police Blotter: Man Has Genitals Severed

Police said a Forest Highland Circle man called and said his private part had just been amputated "by an unknown person."

Responding officers said they found Erik Matthew Berkes walking a few blocks from his home.

They said he was bleeding from his genital area. He was conscious, but not able to respond.

He was taken by ambulance to Erlanger Medical Center.

At his residence, police found the door wide open. The "crime scene" was found to be the bathroom. Officers found bloody towels and rags in the bathtub.

Police said four of the victim's five roommates were asleep "and unaware of what had happened."

The other roommate had gone to work earlier.

Police were going to try to interview the victim to try to get more information.

Katherine Kendrick said she had just pulled up to a business on E. 31st Street to get her hair done when a young blonde white female grabbed her purse off her arm.

The purse is tan with flowers on it. It contained several credit cards and a checkbook.

Lesley Shutters of Sunbeam Avenue found there had been a break-in. A side door had been forced open.

A friend saw two suspicious looking black males on a porch across the street. They drove away in a silver vehicle.

A woman reported seeing a man crouched behind an air conditioning unit on Noa Street.

Officers tracked down Dexter L. Wigfall nearby. He had tools in his pants pocket. It was found the unit had been disassembled.

Wigfall is facing charges of theft under $500, vandalism, trespassing and possession of burglary tools.

A witness spotted two black males on E. 12th Street walking very fast. One was reportedly carrying an air conditioning unit and the other a city garbage can.

Police could not locate the two men, the air conditioning unit or the garbage can.

On Greenwood Road, Elroy Bailey said he was attacked by his girlfriend. The girlfriend, Joyce Morris, said it happened when she found another female at his residence.

Mr. Bailey said they argued, then she pushed him down a flight of stairs. He said they tusseled on the grass, then he ran inside the house and locked the door. He said she then knocked out a window, cutting herself in the process.

Mr. Bailey was found to be bleeding from the right eye and to have a bruised right elbow. Ms. Morris was bleeding from her hand. She was charged with domestic assault.

Police found a heavily damaged red 2000 Chevrolet Blazer in the middle of Wilson Street.

The occupants said the vehicle was rammed by a maroon 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Sammie Christian.

Those in the car were Christina Caldwell, Brandon Halliton, Toni Taylor and Justin Toney. They said Christian is infatuated with Ms. Caldwell, but she is married to Mr. Halliton.

Christian was facing charges of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.
