Man Who Planned To Ram Jail Is Caught On Video - At His Request

Wednesday, December 26, 2007

A man who threatened to drive his truck into the Hamilton County Jail was caught on video - at his request.

Police said they got word that the man was about to drive into the jail.

Officers found a man driving a white truck in the wrong direction on E. 6th Street near the jail.

He pulled in front of the jail and began to rev his engine.

The man was pulled from his truck before he could crash the jail.

Officers said he refused to be placed in the back seat of a police car and kicked one officer in the leg. He ultimately was restrained.

James Skelton faces charges of assault on an officer, DUI and reckless driving.

Police said the whole incident is on tape after Skelton called WDEF, Channel 12, to tell news personnel there of his planned caper.

Station officials said Skelton told them "he wanted it on film."

Cameraman Allen Fairbanks obliged him.

Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)
