Clark Houck Sr.

Clark Houck, Sr., 91, died on Monday, 12/3/07, after a short illness.

He was born on March 25, 1916 in the Baldwin Community near West Jefferson, N.C., where he lived most of his early life. He attended high school in West Jefferson, graduating number one in his class at age 15. In 1953, he moved to Chattanooga to accept an executive position with Skyland International Corporation (makers of Buster Brown children's clothes) where he worked until his retirement in 1971.

An avid traveler, Clark and his wife Ruth visited many countries in addition to all 50 states during their retirement. Clark enjoyed photography, music, telling wonderful jokes and anecdotes, and playing with his grandsons.

Though he had many successes in his professional and family life, he never forgot his humble childhood growing up in the North Carolina hill country.

Clark and Ruth were members of Oakwood Baptist Church for almost 50 years.

Clark was preceded in death by his father, Walter Lee Houck, mother, Sara Eveline Campbell Houck of West Jefferson, and daughter, Nora Evelyn Houck.

He is survived by Ruth Skaggs Houck, his loving wife of 68 years; children Clark (Skip) Houck, Jr. and Tisa Morgan Houck of Chattanooga; Margaret Ann Houck Donnelly and Fred Donnelly of Costa Mesa, Ca.; grandsons, Jason M. and Yvette Wells Houck of Winter Park, Fl., and Lee C. Houck of Long Island City, N.Y.; great-grandsons, Pryce and Graden Houck of Winter Park, Fl.; several cousins and nephews.

Friends are invited to visit the Houck family from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at Oakwood Baptist Church, Bonny Oaks Drive, Chattanooga, at 10 a.m. on Thursday, with Rev. Ken Clark officiating, followed immediately by a graveside service at Lakewood Memory Gardens, East on Shallowford Road.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the work of the Salvation Army in Chattanooga.
