Federal officials say John William Thomas plans to plead guilty on a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Officers said Thomas was being investigated for an alleged home invasion in Whitwell in February 2005.
It was found that Thomas was living with a girlfriend at 6105 Provence St. in Chattanooga.
Thomas was arrested as he was fleeing from that address, officials said.
Officers searched the residence and found a .38-caliber firearm in the bedroom he was occupying.
They also found a bill of sale for a 2003 Ford Mustang from Feb. 21, 2005. The car salesman was interviewed, and he said Thomas paid cash for the car and also for the gun. Price of the gun was $100.
