John Bailes Elected Democratic Party Chairman By Acclamation

Wilson, Carpenter, O'Dea Given Party Offices

Saturday, March 24, 2007

John Bailes was chosen Saturday as the new chairman of the Hamilton County Democratic Party.

Facing no opposition Mr. Bailes was elected by acclamation.

Mr. Bailes ran with his ticket, all of whom were elected without opposition.

After Mr. Bailes won his election, outgoing Chairman Stuart James said, "This election establishes a unified strong party. We can be proud that all Democrats, liberal, conservative and moderate, have found common ground and unity - thanks to the leadership of John Bailes and his team.

"Under John's leadership we will continue to build on the unity he is establishing in his election. The party elected great leadership in John and his team."

Mr. Bailes, in accepting the chairmanship, congratulated the party "on showing unity and strength."

He said a strong foundation had been laid by the outgoing leadership and called on the grassroots members to establish a presence in every neighborhood in Hamilton County.

Mr. Bailes spoke of the future, saying the unity shown by the party "will successfully lead to the election of more Democrats in Hamilton County."

He said, "Let it be said to everyone in our county, state and nation that Hamilton County Democrats are very unified. This is a party that intends on growing the grassroots and electing Democrats who want to solve problems in our county neighborhoods and communities."

Also elected by acclamation were school board member Jeffrey Wilson as vice chairman, James Carpenter as treasurer and Alice O'Dea as secretary.

Mr. Bailes ran for County Commission last year in District 8, losing a close race to incumbent Curtis Adams, who had switched from the Democrats to the Republicans.

Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)
