Police Blotter: Thieves Go After Heat/Air Units

Chattanooga thieves continue to go after heating and air conditioning units.

Steve Ogilbee of E. 25th Street said he went to turn on his air conditioning and nothing happened.

He checked and found that his $3,000 central heat/air system had been taken.

A Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprise worker found that an $1,800 central heat/air unit was gone from 1700 Read Ave.

Just down the street at 1704 Read Ave., the resident found that the heat/air system was not working.

The CNE employee checked and found that someone had stripped the copper from inside the unit. He said the $3,000 unit was damaged beyond repair.

At the Sports Barn downtown, Thomas Helton returned to his locker from a workout and found he had been victimized.

He is missing a $7,000 Rolex watch, a $2,000 insignia ring, a BMW key pad worth $500, $700 in cash and an American Express card with a $100,000 limit.

Police said there was no sign of forced entry on the locker or lock.

Kenyan Hughes said he was walking on E. 45th Street to a store on Rossville Boulevard when a red Geo Storm stopped and two men got out.

He said the men hit him and one cut him on the hand with a box cutter.

They grabbed a $20 bill he had in his hand.

He was taken to Parkridge Hospital, where his hand was stitched up.

At a school in North Chattanooga on W. Mississippi Avenue, police said two juveniles were in a fight and a teacher trying to break it up was assaulted.

The report said one of the youths fighting had been involved in two prior incidents where a teacher was assaulted.

Both were taken to Juvenile Court and charged with simple assault.

Olen J. Davis said he left his 2000 Ford Expedition on the parking lot of the BI-LO on Lee Highway and rode with a co-worker to a job.

When he returned, the Expedition was nowhere in sight.

He said he locked the doors, but left the key inside. He said he gets in using a keypad.

At Sears at Hamilton Place Mall, the chain that was used to hook together lawm mowers was found loose.

Store officials said they did not immediately know how many lawn mowers were taken.

A video showed an older model tan pickup truck by the mowers.

Pickup Truck Crosses To Wrong Side Of Hixson Pike: Other Driver Killed

A pickup truck went across Hixson Pike into the opposing lane of traffic on Saturday afternoon, then struck another vehicle. The driver of that car was killed.
