Police Blotter: Man Attacked By Losers In Basketball Game

Thursday, March 08, 2007

A man told police he was attacked by two men whose team had just lost a pickup basketball game.

Rico Graves said the men were angry that their team lost.

He said he had never seen the pair prior to playing basketball with them at a court somewhere near Howard High School.

He said one of the men swung a stick at him. He said he deflected the blow with his arm, but a piece of the wood went into his eye.

He said the other man hit him in the jaw with his fist.

Police went to the Hampton Inn at 1920 Hamill Road on a report of a car being broken into. Officers found that several vehicles had been entered.

Tony Clemmons said a window on his 2003 Yukon was smashed. He is missing his cellphone, portable DVD player and Sirius satellite radio.

A man on Jefferson Street came home to find his front door open and his residence ransacked.

The man said the house was in such a mess he was unable to make a list of what had been taken.

Officers found a liquor bottle that had been moved from the bar to near the back door. Police said the burglars apparently forgot to take it with them.

The liquor bottle had fingerprints on it and it was dusted for prints.

At an apartment on White Oak Road, Karen Edwards found her rear door kicked in.

She is missing a 27" TV and a DVD player. The items are worth $800 and the damage to the door was $500.
