LaFayette Police Sgt. Sam Parker has been fired after explosives were found in his locker, LaFayette Police Chief Tommy Freeman said Friday.
Chief Freeman said he does not believe the explosives were connected to the mysterious disappearance of Sgt. Parker's estranged wife, Theresa Parker.
Chief Parker said the GBI searched the locker and found some blasting caps and a small amount of C-4 plastic explosive.
Chief Freeman said the presence of the explosives "put the members of this department and my fire department in jeopardy, and that type of conduct will never ever be tolerated as long as I’m the chief of police or the public safety director.”
Parker did not appeal his firing.
He has been named as a "person of interest" in the disappearance of Ms. Parker.
Authorities said the trail has gone "cold" in the effort to find her.
