Alzheimer's Patient At St. Barnabas Dies After Fall Down Stairwell

An 88-year-old resident of the brand-new St. Barnabas Nursing Home facility died after a fall down a stairwell on Sunday.

Frona Baxter was found dead at the bottom of a stairwell after she rolled her wheelchair down a flight of six steps.

Police said Mrs. Baxter, who suffered from Alzheimer’s, "was allowed to roam the 3rd floor hallway where she lived in the newly-opened facility."

Preliminary findings indicate that the death was an accident. However, Chattanooga Police Department major crimes investigators are awaiting the medical examiner’s report.
