Chattanooga attorney Jes Beard has filed suit in Hamilton County Chancery Court to try to block a two-year suspension of his law license.
The suit is brought against the state Board of Professional Responsibility.
It says on May 30 a hearing committee appointed by the BPR found he had violated the rules of professional responsibility in his handling of three different cases.
The panel ruled that he would have suspend his law practice for two years.
Attorney Beard said the proof against him failed to show that he had violated the rules of professional responsibility.
He said in the event there was a violation, it did not warrant a suspension of his law license for two years.
The lawsuit asks that the action of the BPR be dismissed.
