2007 Krystal Kickoff Classic Begins Thursday

Thursday, August 16, 2007

The 2007 Krystal Kickoff Classic Jamboree, presented by Stump on Sports, will kick off Thursday night.

The upcoming football season in Tennessee and Georgia will celebrate a Premier on the green carpet of Finley Stadium in downtown Chattanooga over the next three days.

The 2007 Krystal Kickoff Classic begins with a Georgia four-quarter scrimmage on Thursday. Class A Gordon Lee and Class AAAA Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe play at 7 p.m. and Class AAAA Ridgeland and Class AA Dade County meet next.

Although Gordon Lee and LFO are in different classifications and don't play during the regular season any more, the two schools have been longtime rivals.

New LFO coach Todd Windham moves across the state line into Georgia from Hixson, where he guided his alma mater to a 27-25 mark over the past five seasons.

On Friday, the Tennessee teams roll onto the turf of Davenport Field at 7 p.m. for a jamboree presented by Stump On Sports and hosted by East Ridge High.

Jamboree coordinator Rick Butler has nine teams playing a total of five quarters with Class 2A power Boyd-Buchanan taking the field twice.

The highlight of the night will be a showdown between D-II contender Baylor and 4A power Red Bank. The teams that both sit in the shadows of Signal Mountain less than three miles apart play in the Friday night finale at 9:20.

Baylor is No. 9 and Red Bank No. 10 in the Varsity Sports Media Tennessee Football Magazine All-classification Top 25 poll.

McCallie and Bradley County meet at 7:35. The Blue Tornado will take the field for the unofficial first time under new head coach Rick Whitt. The former Baylor defensive coordinator takes over the helm vacated by Ralph Potter, who is now the head coach at Brentwood Academy.

On Saturday, action again begins at 7 p.m. but six quarters are scheduled.

At 7:35, new Central Purple Pounder coach David Barger will lead his team onto the field to start the school's 100th year of operation.

The night ends with a battle of the green teams. Charles Wiggins' Notre Dame club meets John Allen's improved Silverdale squad that features six transfers.

New Hixson coach Houston White will also take his Wildcats on the field for a dress rehearsal against Wayne Turner's upbeat Ram Train from Tyner.

Admission is $6 per person per night with every child 5-under admitted for free.

East Ridge High will have both Varsity Sports Media's Tennessee Football and Georgia Football magazines on sale all three nights at the stadium.

Georgia Northwestern Falls To Crown 73-60

The Bobcats have exactly 18 days to re-shape their game plan for their first ever NJCAA post-season appearance. A shortened roster struck by injuries throughout the 2011-12 campaign left Georgia Northwestern with only seven uniformed players in the home stand finale Monday night at The R.A.C. versus Crown College (TN).  In their final home game, the Bobcats played an extremely ... Vince Dean Picks Up For Senate Race; Tommie Brown Headed For Contest With JoAnne Favors

Rep. Vince Dean has picked up papers to run for the Senate District 10 seat now held by Democrat Andy Berke. And Rep. Tommie Brown picked up papers to retain her District 28 seat. That sets up a clash with Rep. JoAnne Favors, who picked up for District 28 earlier. Under Republican redistricting, Rep. Favors wound up in the Brown district. Rep. Dean, a Republican from East ... Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)

Roy Exum: What 17 Pills Did To Me

Ah, step into my parlor of first-hand wisdom because, in the School of Hard Knocks, there are priceless lessons that you should know before it becomes your turn to dance. Never in my life have I ever had any back problems but, in early December, I came down with what is called sciatica and I have been a miserable man ever since. There are two big nerves that sprout out of the ... (click for more)
