Hats Needed For Chemotherapy Patients

Tuesday, August 21, 2007

For more than eight years, Erlanger's Cancer Resource Center has distributed hundreds of hats to women undergoing chemotherapy. Unfortunately, due to steadily increasing patient numbers, we are desperately in need of more "Chemo Hats."

Hair loss can be a devastating experience to women going through treatment and many clients lack the financial resources to purchase much-needed headgear. Our goal is to be able to offer each of these survivors a few hats.

We're deeply indebted to the "Chattanooga Knitworks" group who provide us with handmade knit hats, as well as individual donors who replenish our supply.

Our preference is new headgear that is soft because our patients' heads are sensitive after chemotherapy/ hair loss. We need turbans, soft beanie caps, bandanas, scarves, reversible triangle scarves, scarf visors, and soft wide-brim hats in a variety of sizes. Ideal fabrics include cotton, terry, micro fleece, polar fleece, lightweight chiffon polyester and medium weight knits. Even satin, fuzzy or eyelet sleeping caps are much appreciated.

Donations can be brought to our office, on the first floor of Erlanger's Medical Mall, directly across from the First Tennessee Bank office. Our number is 778-7609.
