Festivities Mark Reopening Of Market Street Bridge

Saturday, August 04, 2007

The refurbished Market Street Bridge was thrown open to the public on Saturday with day-long festivities.

The bridge is set to again be available for motorists at 8 a.m. Sunday.

Festivities ranged from live bands to lively demonstrations like fly fishing, belly dancing and bagpipes.

In addition to the merchants, eateries, music and activities on the bridge, the riverfront and North Shore were hopping with a sidewalk sale, storytelling, more music and Dragon Boat races and festival.

The celebration also included a vintage scooter show at Renaissance Park.

Festivities on the bridge were to conclude with a fashion show and reveal of the “Ain’t so Extreme Makeover.”

Also, there was to be a Canine Makeover Reveal, when local shelter dog Tiramisu will be introduced and available for adoption.

The bridge day rolls into night with Riverfront Nights at Ross’ Landing near the Chattanooga Pier.

On Sunday a CARTA electric shuttle bus will be the first vehicle to traverse the historic Market Street Bridge from the south shore (Tennessee Aquarium side) to the North Shore via the bridge.

Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)
