The Sale Creek Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department has been awarded a grant to purchase new equipment from the Assistance to Fire Fighters grant program from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
“Hamilton County is fortunate to have such dedicated volunteers serving the community,” said Congressman Zach Wamp. “The Sale Creek Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department will get a new truck because of this grant, allowing its fire fighters to respond to emergencies in the community more effectively and efficiently.”
With this grant, the Sale Creek Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department will be able to replace its 30-year-old engine with a new pumper-tanker truck.
The Sale Creek Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department has 35 volunteer firefighters and covers 100 square miles in the rural northwest tip of Hamilton County.
The department serves around 8,000 residents and recently received a class 4 Insurance Services Office (ISO) rating for residences within 1,000 feet of a fire hydrant. The ISO rating of a community has a direct effect on home insurance premiums. ISO ratings are based on a scale of 1 to 10, and a lower class rating generally translates into better insurance rates.
