Robbers Get Cash At Poker Game At Knights Of Columbus Hall

Thursday, September 20, 2007

Three armed robbers got away with cash after busting in on a poker game at the Knights of Columbus hall on Lee Highway early Thursday morning.

Police said around 6:15 a.m. at the hall at 7617 Lee Highway, three black males entered the building and robbed several members of the Chattanooga Poker Club at gunpoint.

The occupants were participating in a poker tournament that had been going on all night, police said.

According to witnesses, all three robbers had masks on and demanded the victims get on the floor before they made off with an undetermined amount of cash.

The victims said they were involved in a points-only poker tournament at the Knights of Columbus facility.

The victims were not injured by the assailants. One shot was reportedly fired during the heist.

The investigation is ongoing with detectives of the Chattanooga Police Property Crimes Unit actively working the incident, it was stated.

Knights of Columbus officials said, "It was not a Knights of Columbus event, nor was it sponsored by the Knights of Columbus."

Officials said the hall had been rented to the poker players.

Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)
