Fire Fighters Association Endorses Carol Berz For City Council

Friday, January 18, 2008

The Chattanooga Fire Fighters Association has endorsed Carol Berz for City Council District 6 in the special election to be held Feb. 5.

Jeff Eldridge, president of the CFFA, praised Ms. Berz as "better suited for the district because of her willingness to discuss issues with city employees and lend a listening ear” to labor issues.

In a statement about its decision, the CFFA said that as a mediator Ms. Berz "was familiar with issues that pertain to unions, supported the memorandum of understanding between the unions and the mayor of Chattanooga, and had expressed a willingness to meet with Local 820 about members’ concerns regarding issues that would affect the firefighters."

The CFFA praised Ms. Berz "for her support of issues important to its members, including fair wages, health insurance, retirement, staffing and working conditions, and for a residency policy that would allow city employees to live outside of Tennessee."
