Local Printing Company Named One Of Country's Fastest Growing Privately Owned Firms

Friday, October 17, 2008

Locally owned and operated Modern Way Printing and Fulfillment, Inc. has been named one of the fastest growing privately owned manufacturing companies in America by Inc. Magazine.

Located in Ooltewah, Modern Way – one of only nine local companies recognized by Inc. Magazine this year – has had a 78 percent growth in revenues since 2004 despite findings that show print companies took a loss in revenue across the nation last year according to IBISWorld’s: U.S. Industry Report for Printing Services.

Inc. Magazine, a national magazine that delivers advice, tools and service to help business owners operate at maximum efficiency, publishes a list of the fastest growing companies driven by revenue activity from across the country each year. The Inc. 5000 list provides a comprehensive look at the entrepreneurial engine driving today’s economy. Qualifying companies must have had earnings of at least $200,000 in revenue in 2004 and at least $2 million by 2007. Modern Way has more than surpassed these measurements.

“Ever since David and I bought the company in 1992 we have been focusing on staying at the forefront of printing technology to deliver quality work and customer satisfaction well beyond our competitors,” said David Ingram, co-owner and president of Modern Way. “As a result our client base has grown to include local, national and international companies of all sizes. With the technology available to businesses today we strive to provide more than just printing and copying. We offer high-quality, comprehensive services to our clients with an experienced creative edge.”

In 1998 Modern Way moved into their state-of-the-art Ooltewah facility from Cleveland, Tn., bringing all divisions of the company under one roof and improving their overall workflow and efficiency. Since the move, Modern Way has acquired the College Press in Collegedale, Tenn., dramatically contributing to their fast-paced growth. In addition they have added a third production and fulfillment facility in Ooltewah to further support their client base.

Starting out with only eight employees in 1992, Modern Way currently employs more than 50 local residents and has seen a steady growth in revenues over the past several years.

“We are constantly taking steps to ensure the continued growth of our clients and our company through innovative business techniques and technologically advanced printing equipment,” said Ed Lawrence, co-owner and vice president of Modern Way. “With the continued growth of our company we’ve recently began reviewing options that would permit us to more than double the size of our Ooltewah facility and allow us to efficiently accommodate an even greater amount of clientele.”

As one of the first commercial printers in the Southeast to use a modern offset press, Modern Way does everything in-house including design, layout, printing, binding, project assembly, packaging, warehousing, shipping, bulk mailing and tracking. Modern Way also has print-on-demand variable data systems using the digital Docucolor™ system from Xerox and the Heidelberg Digimaster™ system available to all clients.

Founded in 1957, Modern Way employs the area’s finest craftsmen and equipment to ensure all printed materials are produced in the highest quality at the best cost and in the fastest manner. They continue to bring high-tech digital printing techniques to the Chattanooga area and help their clients achieve market growth through personal marketing messages and various marketing materials.
