It’s here. The Halloween season has arrived. My favorite time, it includes a visit by one of my favorite bands, Here Come The Mummies, just in time for a special spooky Halloween Eve show at Rhythm & Brews Thursday.
For those that aren’t familiar with them, HCTM are an odd bunch of musicians in mummy outfits that sound a lot like Blood, Sweat & Tears, Chicago, and Earth Wind and Fire all wrapped into one. And they aren’t wearing the mummy outfits just for Halloween. They wear them year-round to conceal their true identity. Under contract to various studios in Nashville, this group of 5000-year-old misfits offers up a quality sound that could only come from seasoned, Grammy award winning musicians. Their shows sell out everywhere they play, but especially at Rhythm & Brews. My suggestion is that you buy your tickets online for the October 30 show. You can check out Here Come The Mummies at click here. Tickets are available at click here.
The Palms is having a pre-Halloween party on Thursday, also. Convertibull will be playing there, with a costume contest!
I expect to see some crazy costumes this weekend. There will be several parties with live music around town, so pick one out, dress up, and go out and have some fun.
T-Bones Halloween party is a fun time, especially if you like unusual costumes and lots of college co-eds dressed in very little. They have Jumbo Deluxe, a good blues/rock band playing, and I am sure the good times will roll there Friday Night.
Buds will host a huge Halloween party, with party band Bud Lightning stirring the cauldron on Brainerd Rd. Chris Gomez and friends are always a fun show, but combine that with some crazy costumes and you get guaranteed fun.
Murphy’s Ale House has a Halloween special with No Big Deal playing starting at 8 p.m. Costumes, good music, and fun – a great combination. I may have to hit Murphy’s, then T-Bones, then Buds, and then – well, who knows.
Blue Orleans on Amnicola has a Halloween party and costume contest, with live jazz by Tom Cordell. Prizes for best costumes!
Whatever you decide to do this weekend for Halloween, be extra safe and call a taxi if you have been consumed any alcohol. The police will be out in force, so why take a chance hurting yourself or someone else?
Oktoberfest was a blast at the Chattanooga Market last weekend. Jeff Styles and Friends Of The Festival did a great job putting together music for the festival this year. With very short notice, they were able to get some great music for the Oktoberfest. There was a huge VW parade through town, and vendors galore at the Pavilion. If I were a betting man, I would say next year’s event will be even better and bigger.
I will be a guest co-host on WGOW’s “Fred The Show” on Election Day next week with Jeff Styles and a couple other folks at 11 a.m. We will be offering up our opinions on the election, as well as taking calls from listeners that want to weigh in on the various races. Feel free to listen in at FM 102.3 or WGOW.com. No cover charge!
