District 3 City Councilman Dan Page said Monday he will not seek re-election.

He is the second incumbent council member to choose not to run again. Debbie Gaines announced earlier she will not seek re-election.

Councilman Page said, "It is with appreciation to the constituents of District 3 and with respect for the public office of City Council that I announce my decision not to seek re-election for a third term as City Councilman. I strongly believe in participatory government and would like to encourage interested persons in District 3 to consider running for councilperson for District 3.

"I have enjoyed representing the residents of my area and the opportunity to have participated in the transformation of Chattanooga as we have become recognized as one of the greatest cities of the south.

"In District 3 we have truly experienced an exciting growth in new resources as well as expanded economic development. All this would not have been possible without the great people who volunteer their efforts and time to our community and neighborhoods.

"We live in a wonderful city and each of us has unique responsibilities to respond to the privileges we enjoy. I have experienced a great community of people who have supported me and made my job rewarding. I would be remiss if I did not thank those who served on the steering committees that developed our community plans for District 3 and also pay tribute to the many volunteers who make our community strong and vibrant.

"I have been especially fortunate to have had so many friends and neighbors work in my past campaigns and then continue to support me while in office. My appreciation is gratefully extended to Mrs. Geri Spring and Mr. Everett Fairchild who served as mentor and teacher for me as I entered public office as a novice some years ago. They taught me the importance of working with the community and what volunteerism is all about.

"There are some great people in our city government and I have enjoyed learning and working with them. Being part of the City Council has been a great experience. I believe our diverse Council really wants to do what is best for our City.

"I have no plans at this time to seek another public office. For now, I will diligently continue my responsibility as a council member. I encourage everyone to vote in the upcoming election. I want to again thank the residents of District 3 for allowing me to serve during the last eight years. It has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life."

We Are Blessed To Have Ron Littlefield As Our Mayor - And Response (2)

Chattanooga is blessed beyond measure to have Ron Littlefield as our mayor.  It is a total travesty our city has had to endure the long frivolous battle with absolutely  no foundation other than disagreement with policy issues.  It has always been a vendetta directed personally at Mayor Littlefield which, if the "interveners" decide to appeal, will be a proven fact.   ...
