Enjoy Autumn in Chattanooga with the following downtown events happening through Monday, Oct. 13:

The Siskin Children's Institute will provide a free community education session entitled "Autism 101" on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Institute's training room. The Chattanooga Lady Mocs Volleyball Team will be in action three times this week. On Wednesday the Lady Mocs play host to Samford at 7 p.m. Then on Saturday they take on Wofford at 2 p.m. Finally, they will be in action against Furman on Sunday at 1 p.m. All matches are held in Maclellan Gym on the campus of UTC and admission is free.

The City of Chattanooga, Department of Neighborhood Services and Community Development presents the 10th Annual Neighborhoods Conference Thursday and Friday at the Chattanooga Convention Center. For more information, call (423) 425-3700.

The Creative Discovery Museum opens its new exhibit, "Kids Like You, Kids Like Me," Saturday. This exhibit offers children and their parents the chance to experience a day in the life of a child with a disability. For more information, call (423) 756-2738.

Stephen Sondheim's musical thriller Sweeney Todd will be presented Thursday at the Tivoli Theatre, as part of TAPA's 2008-2009 Broadway Series. The series package is on sale now at Memorial Auditorium box office. Call 642-TIXS.

The Chattanooga History Center will present its third walking tour based on Maury Nicely's "Chattanooga Walking Tour and Historic Guide" at 7 p.m. on Thursday. The History Center's Curator, Dr. Daryl Black will serve as tour guide. Black will highlight Chattanooga's transportation and geographical history as it pertains to the Walnut St. Bridge and North Shore. Cost is $3 for adults and $1 for youth aged 6 through 18. The AEC Independent Film Series continues at the Bijou Theatre with Up the Yangtze through Thursday and Frozen River beginning Friday.

The Creative Discovery Museum hosts Spooky Days, featuring spooky stories, spooky arts activities, plus s'mores and hot apple cider this Saturday and every Saturday throughout the month of October. For more information, call 756-2738.

The Downtown Library will celebrate the grand opening of a new teen center known as the Teen Stack on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Immediately after the ribbon-cutting ceremony, a special event will be held in the library's auditorium to kick-off Teen Read Week. This year's theme is Books with Bite, and activities will include a cookie decorating workshop and a costume contest. Teens are invited to dress in vampire or Goth attire. Rowing teams from regional colleges, high schools, and clubs will take to the Tennessee River for the 16th annual Chattanooga Head Race on Saturday at Ross' Landing in downtown Chattanooga. The 5,000-meter downriver race will take 2-man, 4-man, and 8-man rowing teams along Chattanooga's south shore and the Tennessee Riverwalk. The event is free and open for spectators. Racing begins at 9 a.m. and goes on all day.

Visitors of all abilities can enjoy a free day at the Chattanooga Zoo during the fourth annual Go!Fest celebration this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The celebration will feature animal attractions and interactions, but breaking boundaries and increasing disability awareness are at the heart of Go!Fest. This event will also showcase activities, entertainment and information from various social service agencies and other civic-minded groups, businesses and institutions. On Sunday Greenlife Grocery will celebrate OctoberFest with a special Harvest Market, a home brewers contest, music and more.

Celebrate Fall with Americana music, fresh Fall produce and local arts and crafts this Sunday at Chattanooga Market's Americana Music Day at the First Tennessee Pavilion from noon until 5 p.m. Enjoy the cool Autumn air under the pavilion while shopping for fresh locally-grown produce and handmade finds.

On Sunday a new exhibition called Object Project opens at the Hunter Museum of American Art. This unusual exhibition offers a medley of portraiture, still life paintings and landscapes in a variety of media.

Prosecutors Asking Maximum Sentence For "Evil" Mother Of Jesse Mathews

Prosecutors are asking that the mother of the man charged with killing Chattanooga Police Sgt. Tim Chapin be given the maximum possible sentence, calling Kathleen Mathews an evil manipulator who encouraged Jesse Mathews' criminal endeavors. Mark Phillips Was Victim In Fatal Hixson Pike Wreck

Mark Phillips, 54, was the victim in a fatal Hixson Pike wreck on Saturday afternoon. Police said the driver of the Ford F150 that went out of control and struck the Phillips vehicle was 68-year-old Warren Elliott.
