Barnes & Noble Hosts Book Signing By Author Shane Berryhill

Saturday, November 22, 2008

Local author Shane Berryhill will be at the new Barnes & Noble at Hamilton Place Mall on Saturday, November 22, at 2 p.m. signing his latest novel Chance Fortune in the Shadow Zone, the second novel in the futuristic series The Adventures of Chance Fortune.

In the first volume of The Adventures of Chance Fortune series, Chance Fortune and The Outlaws, fourteen-year-old Josh Blevins dreams of becoming a student at the esteemed Burlington Academy for the Superhuman. However, due to his lack of superpowers, his application is rejected.

Refusing to accept defeat, Josh, through some dubious connections and little white lies, gains entrance into Burlington. At Burlington Academy Josh meets a kaleidoscope of extraordinary characters – some friends, some enemies – and ultimately finds himself caught up in a struggle for the fate of the universe.

The adventure continues with volume two, Chance Fortune in the Shadow Zone, with Chance and his teammates, the Outlaws, being inexplicably teleported into the Shadow Zone, a dimensional prison for super-villains. They soon discover an even greater evil resides there, threatening to spread across all of space and time. To save the universe and escape, the Outlaws must embark upon an agonizing journey of body and soul. It is a quest not all of them will survive!

Chance Fortune and the Outlaws was originally published by Starscarpe, Tor's young adult division, in August 2006, and is currently available in hardcover and paperback. It is an official selection of Renaissance Learning's Accelerated Reader Program, the New York Public Library's Books for the Teen Age, and the Texas Lone Star Reading List.

Barnes & Noble will also feature TV/Radio personality Glenn Beck (glennbeck.com), who will be signing copies of his new holiday tale, The Christmas Sweater, as well as Chattanooga's own Susan Gilmore (susangregggilmore.com), author of Looking for Salvation at the Dairy Queen, the story of a Georgia woman's pursuit of her dreams.

Chance Fortune in the Shadow Zone is currently available for purchase online and at bookstores everywhere, including Barnes & Noble. Thoughs On The Mathews Sentencing

It is not by coincidence I haven’t submitted an opinion piece in some time to the Chattanoogan.  The topics I cover are generally vitriolic in regards to local political decisions and their makers regarding public safety and I do not wish to associate my name with more noble subjects such as that of the heroic death and cowardly murder of Chattanooga Police Sergeant Tim Chapin, ... Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)
