Heroes From the Valley, a WTCI original documentary, has been nominated for an Emmy award in the Documentary/Historical category for the 23rd Annual Midsouth Regional Emmy Awards.
Heroes From the Valley debuted in November 2007 as a complement to Ken Burns' World War II series, The War, and has received acclaim for its telling of the sacrifices and triumphs of Tennessee Valley residents during World War II. In some cases, the stories WTCI was able to capture for the documentary had never been heard by family members, creating new bonds and memories for veterans and their families, officials said.
"Every person in the country was deeply affected by World War II, whether in battle, at home, or at work," said WTCI President and CEO Paul Grove. "WTCI is honored to play a part in preserving and telling the stories of our local veterans."
The documentary was produced by WTCI's production team, with Peter DeLynn as executive producer and Shaun Townley as producer. All of the stories collected for the documentary have become part of a national archive in Washington, DC for the Veteran's History Project. Emmy awards will be announced Jan. 24.
