A house suffered fire damage in East Ridge on Sunday afternoon.
East Ridge Fire/Rescue and Police responded to 3524 Cherokee Ave. at approximately 3:53 p.m. when a neighbor called to report a residential structure fire.
When first responders arrived on the scene three minutes after the call was received, they found the structure heavily involved in fire and smoke.
The homeowner was not in the residence at the time of the fire.
Firefighters had to make a forced entry in order to establish an interior attack. Fire crews were able to cut the fire off and prevent any further expansion. The fire was contained to one room and its contents.
East Ridge Fire/Arson Investigators are working to determine the exact cause and origin of the fire. However, foul play is not believed to be a factor. Damage has been estimated at $40,000.
Units responding were East Ridge Engine 1, Quint 1, Engine 2, Squad 2, Support 2, Rescue 1, Haz-Mat 1, and Rescue 2. Fort Oglethorpe Engine 10, Rossville Engine 3, and Memorial EMS also responded to a request for mutual aid.
