A woman told police she started to open her front door after being gone for a short time and found someone on the other side of the door.

The Cassie Lane resident said she is almost positive she locked the door. She left at 10:45 a.m. and returned at 11:15 a.m.

She said when she pushed the front door, she felt resistance on the other side. She looked around the door and saw a Hispanic man with a gray hoodie. He elbowed her in the eye, then ran past her.

The woman said she thought she saw a second man wearing a yellow hoodie at the rear of her residence.

Police said by the time they arrived, the woman's eye was turning black.

Jacqueline Williams said she was walking to a bus stop on North Orchard Knob Avenue when a black male tackled her from behind. She was knocked to her knees.

The attacker pulled several times on her purse, but she would not let it go.

Finally, the thief ran off.

Brenda Emmett said while she was parked at Alan Gold's club, someone broke a window on her 1995 Honda Accord.

They found her purse under a seat and took $2,100 in cash. They also removed her car stereo.

At the Ace Hardware on Lee Highway, a glass door on the side of the building was broken.

Some Stihl chainsaws are missing.

Emily Salter said two people broke into her car on 8th Street. The driver's side window was broken.

Her purse, with cell phone, credit cards and checks, was taken from inside the Mazda 6 wagon.

A neighbor saw a black male driving away on a bike dangling the purse. Another black male was on foot with him.

Katrina Kyner of Camden Street came home to find that a small garden shovel from her yard had been used to pry open her front door.

Drawers in a dresser were ransacked along with a small purse. She is missing a coin collection and a bottle of Crown Royal whisky.

Also taken was her deceased aunt's identification papers.

Two dogs were at the house, and there is an alarm system. But the burglars were undeterred.

Police found the front door broken at 2022 Broad St.

A drawer was pulled out from the cash register, and money is missing.

Melissa Baker said a white couple had been sleeping in vacant townhomes in Igou Crossing.

She said she caught the couple in her attic and warned them to stay away.

She said they had stayed at her neighbor's house, but they were not found there.

Ms. Baker said their black 1990 Mazda RX-7 was parked out front. A search found that it was stolen out of Georgia.

On Slayton Avenue, Frederick Taylor said he argued with his brother, Nelson Taylor.

Then they had a water throwing fight.

Nelson Taylor was gone by the time police arrived.

A McBrien resident said Hosea Lamar Grasty knocked on the door of his apartment and he invited him in for a drink. He said Grasty had some brandy, then started crying.

The resident called police when the guest wouldn't leave.

Police said Grasty was extremely intoxicated. He was "mumbling something about his mother dying."

An officer also observed the unwanted guest "appears to be a woman."

He (or she) was escorted back home.
