Herschel Tate Sr. died on Monday, April 14, 2008.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Jewel Tate; son, Robert Lee Tate; brother, Willis Tate; and daughter, Janet McConnell.
He is survived by his wife, Vera Tate; sons, Herschel Tate Jr., of Nashville, and Virlyn Carmichael Tate, Chattanooga; daughter, Gwendolyn (Jessie) Edwards-Williams, Houston, Texas, Shirley Tate, Chattanooga, Jacqueline Tate and Sandra (Ronald) Vice-Gunn, North Hollywood, Ca.; granddaughter, Kimberly Edwards; and a host of other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and special friend, Gwen.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, at the Rose of Sharon Baptist Church with Pastor Charles Moore officiating. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery.
Visitation will be after noon on Monday.
