Community Corrections Supervisor Won't Sign Extradition Papers

A Hamilton County Community Corrections supervisor who was arrested Thursday as a fugitive from Texas is rufusing to sign extradition papers.

The fugitive warrant for Jeffrey R. Elder was issued from Hemphill, Tex., (Sabine County).

The original charge is debit or credit card abuse.

Officials said a governor’s warrant has been started. It could take up to 90 days to complete.

When it is received here, it will be taken before a Criminal Court judge for review and at that time the defendant will be remanded to the state of Texas, officials said.

Hamilton County Sheriff’s fugitive division arrested Elder on Thursday at his home on Hunter Village Drive.

Meanwhile, Tameka Burney, 20, who was also sought on a fugitive warrant out of Hemphill, Tex. (Sabine County), was arrested.

Ms. Burney, of 6105 Wentworth Ave., was taken to the Hamilton County Jail for booking.

The original charge is the same as Jeffery Elder, which is debit or credit card abuse.

The four remaining members of the Red Bank Commission held a special called meeting on Tuesday and chose Kenneth Walsh as the replacement for Vice Mayor Greg Jones, who moved to Alaska. I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt.
