The City Council on Tuesday night delayed action on a road request by Girls Preparatory School - until Councilwoman Linda Bennett can be present.
GPS is asking the city to abandon the 700 block of Frazier Avenue, which is a narrow road that winds up a hill to the GPS campus.
Councilman Manny Rico said GPS wants the road abandoned so it can spend about $80,000 to improve it and help with drainage problems. The school has an athletic complex at the foot of the hill.
He said GPS plans to gate the road between midnight and 6 a.m., but keep it open otherwise.
Council members said Ms. Bennett should have input since that is in her district.
Councilman Jack Benson noted that some residents appeared before the Planning Commission to oppose the move, saying they regularly use the road.
In another road case, the council granted the city attorney's office to take eminent domain action against Deanna Flanders of 1923 Hamill Road.
Bill Payne, city engineer, said she was the lone property owner holding out for more money for a right of way on widening a section of Hamill Road.
Bids went out on the project last week.
