Chattanooga CARES Has 80's Fundraiser Aug. 2

Chattanooga CARES, along with platinum sponsor Erlanger, is bringing guests back to the 80’s with their dance party fundraiser entitled Mission: Red Ribbon “That’s So 80’s.”

The event will be held Saturday, Aug. 2, at Warehouse Row with music from the 80’s- live performances, a DJ with 80’s music and video screens playing throughout, and a pop music icon.

A VIP party will begin at 7 p.m. and general admission entrance is at 8 p.m. Log on to www.missionredribbon.org or call 423-648-9912 to buy tickets. Ticket levels include VIP and general admission. Come dressed in 80’s attire, such as tight rolled jeans, crimped hair, and jelly shoes.

Internationally known 80’s pop star Tiffany will take the stage and sing all of her hits including “I Think We’re Alone Now,” “Could’ve Been,” and “I Saw Him Standing There.” Tiffany has sold over 12 million albums in her career, launched New Kids On the Block, and is still actively recording, touring, and a fixture in Hollywood.

Chattanooga CARES is the Tennessee Valley’s primary nonprofit agency dedicated to preventing the spread of new HIV infections while at the same time providing AIDS resources. CARES mission is to provide education, prevention, and support for all people affected by HIV in the Tennessee Valley.
In 1986, CARES was established by a small group of concerned men and women in response to the devastation the AIDS epidemic was producing in southeast Tennessee. In 1986, CARES was mostly focused on providing end-of-life care as well as prevention efforts. Today, CARES is the third largest community based HIV organi¬zation in Tennessee, and is governed by a board of directors, employs 14 staff members, and utilizes the efforts of over 150 volunteers.

CARES provides a variety of HIV services. Primary care services, including comprehensive primary health care, substance abuse and mental health services, adherence counseling, patient education, nutritional services, and specialty medical services, are offered in a single clinic setting on-site. Client services are also available. These services include case management, support services, and support groups, and housing referrals and place¬ment. Finally, CARES provides prevention education programs to over 20,000 people a year and free rapid HIV tests to over 1,500.

Prosecutors Asking Maximum Sentence For "Evil" Mother Of Jesse Mathews

Prosecutors are asking that the mother of the man charged with killing Chattanooga Police Sgt. Tim Chapin be given the maximum possible sentence, calling Kathleen Mathews an evil manipulator who encouraged Jesse Mathews' criminal endeavors. Pickup Truck Crosses To Wrong Side Of Hixson Pike: Other Driver Killed

A pickup truck went across Hixson Pike into the opposing lane of traffic on Saturday afternoon, then struck another vehicle. The driver of that car was killed.
