Man Charged With Sex With 13-Year-Old He Met On Chat Line

Monday, June 09, 2008

A statutory rape charge was bound to the Grand Jury on Monday against a 32-year-old Chattanooga man who allegedly had sexual contact with a 13-year-old girl he met on an Internet chat line.

Christopher Cahill of Daytona Drive appeared before General Sessions Court Judge David Bales.

The girl said she met Cahill via the Internet and he came over to her house.

Her parents called police after spotting the girl with him on their back porch.

An officer said when he arrived, Cahill was sitting on the porch steps at the girl's house. He said his belt was undone and his pants were unzipped.

"He was severely embarrassed," the officer said.

According to a police report, Cahill fondled the girl and she performed a sex act on him.

Attorney Marty Levitt said Cahill thought the girl was in her 20s. He said the chat site is for use for those 18 and over.

Prosecutor Steve Smith called Cahill "every parent's nightmare."

The prosecutor said, "He is exactly the type of criminal we need protection from."

Judge Bales called the action "reprehensible."

He told Cahill, "You need to stay off these dadgone chat lines." He said sexual predators often frequent those sites.

Judge Bales allowed Cahill to remain free on the same bond, but said he can no longer "call any date hotline."

Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)
