Jewish Community Federation Exhibits Editorial Cartoons By Clay Bennett

Friday, July 25, 2008

The Jewish Community Federation of Greater Chattanooga presents "Think Globally, Draw Locally," a collection of editorial cartoons by Clay Bennett, the Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist for the Chattanooga Times Free Press, Aug. 4 through Sept. 4.

Visitors to the exhibit will be treated to a view of our world, country, state and city, through the eyes and pen of one of America's premier editorial cartoonists.

A luncheon and meet-the-artist opportunity will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 19 at noon when Mr. Bennett will speak about his editorial cartoons.

The cost for the luncheon is $6.00. Reservations can be made by calling Ann Treadwell at 423 493-0270, ext. 13 by Aug. 13.

Mr. Bennett has received almost every honor his profession has to offer, including The Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning (2002), the Sigma Delta Chi Award (2001), the National Journalism Award (2002), the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award (2007), the John Fischetti Award (2001, 2005), the Overseas Press Club Award (2005, 2000) and the National Headliner Award (1999, 2000, 2004).

A 1980 graduate from the University of North Alabama, Mr. Bennett said, "My career has taken a long and sometimes bumpy road, but I'm very pleased with where it's led me. After almost 30 years and five newspapers, I've finally returned to the Tennessee River, so it was well worth the journey".

Mr. Bennett, who has served stints with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Fayetteville (NC) Times, the St. Petersburg Times and The Christian Science Monitor, now draws for the Chattanooga Times Free Press, where his cartoons appear five times a week.

The exhibit is free and open to the public from Aug. 4 through Sept. 4 at the Jewish Cultural Center, located at 5461 North Terrace Road in Chattanooga. The exhibit complements Mr. Bennett’s talk, and is on display Monday – Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Jewish Federation and its programs are open to the public regardless of religious affiliation.

We Are Blessed To Have Ron Littlefield As Our Mayor - And Response (2)

Chattanooga is blessed beyond measure to have Ron Littlefield as our mayor.  It is a total travesty our city has had to endure the long frivolous battle with absolutely  no foundation other than disagreement with policy issues.  It has always been a vendetta directed personally at Mayor Littlefield which, if the "interveners" decide to appeal, will be a proven fact.   ...
