The Chattanooga Lookouts, facing a lineup that included two Major Leaguers, held on to defeat the Mississippi Braves on Friday, 5-4, in Pearl, MS.

Travis Wood (2-4) threw one his his best outings of the season for the Lookouts. Wood went six innings, giving up two hits and one run.

Chattanooga took a 5-2 lead into the bottom of the ninth. The Braves got all over Carlos Fisher who yielded two runs on two hits. Fisher was able to collect his seventh save.

Jeff Francoeur, who was sent down from Atlanta Friday to work on his hitting, went 2-for-5. In his first at bat Francoeur hit, what was originally called a homer run, but then reversed - eventually he walked. Matt Diaz, on a rehab assignment, was 0-for-3 in the game.

Sean Henry continued his impressive hitting for Chattanooga. Henry, now hitting .306, went 2-for-4 (both hits were doubles), had 2 RBI and also scored a run.

Justin Turner also went 2-for-4 and scored a run.

Chris Valaika, who will be playing at Yankees Stadium in the Futures Game, went 1-for-4 (a double).

Personal note

On the Francoeur reversed call, it comes as no surprise to Chattanooga-area fans to learn that Mississippi manager Phillip "Sniper" Wellman (a YouTube celebrity) was ejected for arguing the call. No report on his antics, but it is likely his days of showmanship have been reigned in by the Atlanta Braves management.

Georgia Northwestern Falls To Crown 73-60

The Bobcats have exactly 18 days to re-shape their game plan for their first ever NJCAA post-season appearance. A shortened roster struck by injuries throughout the 2011-12 campaign left Georgia Northwestern with only seven uniformed players in the home stand finale Monday night at The R.A.C. versus Crown College (TN).  In their final home game, the Bobcats played an extremely ... Vince Dean Picks Up For Senate Race; Tommie Brown Headed For Contest With JoAnne Favors

Rep. Vince Dean has picked up papers to run for the Senate District 10 seat now held by Democrat Andy Berke. And Rep. Tommie Brown picked up papers to retain her District 28 seat. That sets up a clash with Rep. JoAnne Favors, who picked up for District 28 earlier. Under Republican redistricting, Rep. Favors wound up in the Brown district. Rep. Dean, a Republican from East ... Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)

Roy Exum: What 17 Pills Did To Me

Ah, step into my parlor of first-hand wisdom because, in the School of Hard Knocks, there are priceless lessons that you should know before it becomes your turn to dance. Never in my life have I ever had any back problems but, in early December, I came down with what is called sciatica and I have been a miserable man ever since. There are two big nerves that sprout out of the ... (click for more)
