East Ridge Fire/Rescue and East Ridge Police responded on Wednesday to 1641 John Ross Road on a residential structure fire. Emergency personnel arrived on the scene in four minutes.
A police officer near the home arrived just before fire crews to find smoke coming from the roof line and verified that the house had been evacuated.
An interior attack was established which contained the fire to the area of the kitchen. The initial investigation indicates that the fire originated in the kitchen and it appears to be accidental. Damage is estimated at approximately $25,000.
The American Red Cross was notified to assist the displaced resident.
Crews responding to the scene included East Ridge Squad 1, Engine 2, Engine 1, Quint 3, Rescue 1, and Support 1. Lifeguard EMS and Fort Oglethorpe Engine 10 also responded.
