White Team Knocks Off Blue Squad 3-1 In Intrasquad Game

Saturday, August 23, 2008

The Chattanooga Lady Mocs finished up their preseason workouts Saturday at Maclellan Gymnasium with an intrasquad scrimmage. In a battle between the blue and the white, the white team took the match 3-1, winning 25-22, 28-26, 10-25, and 25-21.

“I thought it was an excellent scrimmage,” Head Coach Lisa Rhodes said. “It was very competitive on both ends. It also gave us a lot to talk about from a coaching standpoint in regards to who can handle pressure situations.”

Senior Lara Newberry led the blue team with a match-high 26 digs and posted four kills, while freshman Ellie Kuhn led the match with 16 kills.

Senior Michaela Huff led all players with 33 assists and Cassie Conner recorded 32. Junior Ashley Yeager led the white squad with 16 digs while freshman Jessica Scott led the team with ten kills.

In the first set, both teams were tied at 21 before the white team took control and went on to capture the 25-22 win. In the second set, both teams battled to a 26-all tie, until Jessica Williamson and Ashley Yeager recorded back-to-back kills to give the white squad the first two sets. In the third set, the white team scored the first point but wouldn’t lead again in the set. The blue squad stormed ahead after a 4-all tie and never looked back, winning 25-10, and forcing a fourth set. In the final set, blue team went ahead with a 16-12 lead, and then the white squad began chipping away. The white team would eventually tie the match up at 17-all, and didn’t trail again to take the set and the match.

“Ashley (Yeager) was very impressive,” said Rhodes. “She came out aggressive and really hit the ball well. Jessica Scott also impressed me as well by the way she played on the front line.”

The Lady Mocs will open up their season on Friday against the Tennessee Lady Vols at the Marquette Kickoff Tournament in Milwaukee.

Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)

Ah, step into my parlor of first-hand wisdom because, in the School of Hard Knocks, there are priceless lessons that you should know before it becomes your turn to dance. There are two big nerves that sprout out of the ... (click for more)
