Parkridge East Hospital Offers Childbirth Classes

Parkridge East Hospital will offer the following childbirth classes:

One-Day Prepared Childbirth Class - Saturdays: October 25 & December 13 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Don’t have time to attend multiple weeks of classes? This class is for you! Although instructor led, this class involves a large number of informative videos including stages of labor, induction, augmentation, epidural anesthesia, cesarean delivery and car seat safety. We will take a 30-minute lunch break, so bring a lunch, or plan to pick up something close. Bring two pillows and something to use as a focal point. $75 class fee. Tour of the Birthplace - Thursdays: October 23 & December 11 from 6 – 7 p.m. and Saturdays: September 6 & November 1 from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.

Infant/Child CPR - Saturdays: September 6, October 4, November 1 & December 6 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
American Heart Association course taught by Basic Life Support instructor. Course includes what you would do in the event your infant or child stops breathing or begins to choke. Injury prevention discussion. Class for moms, dads, grandparents and caregivers. $15 per person.

Boot Camp for Dads - Saturdays: September 27 & November 8 from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
A fun, free and informative class for Dads (new or experienced) about the ins and outs of being a great dad. Led by a First Things First instructor, this class is a guys-only event. Free. To register, call TriStar MedLine at 800 242-5662

Baby Basics - Saturdays: October 4 & December 6 from 1 - 2:30 p.m.
This class will teach you the fundamentals of infant care. Course will include diapering, bathing and infant safety. Question and answer time included. $10 per couple/free with Prepared Childbirth Course

Breastfeeding Class - Thursdays: October 23 & December 11 from 7 – 9 p.m. and Saturdays: September 20 & November 15 from 10 a.m. - noon.
Forget all the stories you’ve heard! Come and get the “real” story from board certified lactation consultants.
Topics include: physiology of breastfeeding, advantages of breastfeeding, techniques for successful breastfeeding, common pitfalls and challenges, products and support available, and question and answer time.

Parkridge East Hospital Lactation Center - This service is for new breastfeeding mothers who are having feeding problems after they go home. A Board Certified Lactation Consultant will assist mom and baby in lactation support one on one. Breastfeeding supplies and equipment available. $100 membership fee (includes 4 visits- membership fee is non-transferable) and $50 for a single consult visit.

Breastfeeding Support Group - Every Wednesday 1 – 3 p.m.
A group setting where new mothers bring their babies for breastfeeding time & baby weight checks (before & after nursing). We can tell you how much your baby drinks at your breast within 1/10 of an ounce. Moms get a chance to meet other breastfeeding mothers, and share concerns and victories. Lactation consultant available for breastfeeding questions.
Free - Registration is not required.

Car Seat Safety Checks - Tuesdays: September 9, October 14, November 11 & December 9 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Come by and have your car seats inspected. You may come prior to delivery of your baby, or anytime after your baby arrives. Conducted by Christy Smith from the Hamilton County Health Department. No need to register. Car seat safety checks are held in parking lot between hospital and doctor’s office building. Free - Registration is not required.

Prepared Childbirth Course - Mondays, 7 – 9 p.m. October 6 - November 3 and November 17 – December 15.
The Prepared Childbirth Course fee is $75 and includes all prenatal classes except the Infant/Child CPR class.

NICU Nursing Conference Donates $9,000 To March Of Dimes

Man Tells Police He Just Murdered His Wife

An Chattanooga man told police Monday night that he had just murdered his wife.  Police said Robert Hardnett showed up at the County Jail to turn himself in. Ammonia Leak At BASF On Amnicola Highway Causes Major Traffic Backups

A leak of anhydrous ammonia at BASF Corporation on Amnicola Highway forced the closure of main thoroughfares Tuesday morning, causing major problems for rush-hour traffic heading into Chattanooga.  The incident began around 4:30 a.m. at the plant when a small fire broke out at an anhydrous ammonia pump. I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt.
