Tennessee’s Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT-1), based in Chattanooga, has been deployed to Baton Rouge, La., to assist with the emergency response activities related to Hurricane Gustav.
The 35-member team, consisting of doctors, nurses and paramedics from across the state, was put on alert Saturday night.
The team was activated Sunday morning and arrived at Baton Rouge at 6 a.m. Monday.
The commander of the DMAT, Ted Rogers, said the team is staying in a school in Baton Rouge, riding out the storm as Gustav passes overhead.
He said his team will probably get orders to move out into the damaged areas in a few hours.
