Moc Golfers Lead Collegiate Classic After 36 Holes

The Chattanooga Mocs are in the lead after 36 holes at the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic at the Farm in Rocky, Face, Ga. The 12th-ranked Mocs shot a tournament low 283 (-5) to claim a three-shot lead over first round leader East Tennessee State.

Chattanooga posted three sub-par rounds led by senior Ben Rickett who shot a three-under par 69. Rickett’s round included five birdies and two bogeys. He is tied for 12th at even par (144) for the tournament.

The Mocs round of 283 gives the team a 36-hole total of 574 (-2). UTC has a three-shot lead over ETSU, four over Clemson and eight over Tennessee.

Freshman Stephan Jaeger continues to impress with a one-under par 71 to move into a tie for second with a two-day total of 141 (-3). It is his fifth straight par or better round to open his career. Senior Jonathan Hodge added an even-par 72 to go one-under par (143), tied for eighth place.

Fredrik Qvicker’s 71 (-1) gave the Mocs four players with par or better scores on the day. Qvicker is now tied for 46th at 149 (+5). Derek Rende carded his second straight round of 75 (+3) and is tied for 55th at 150.

Chattanooga is paired with Clemson and East Tennessee State. The Carpet Capital Collegiate features four preseason top 10 teams including top-ranked Georgia, No. 6 Florida, No. 7 Clemson and No. 10 Georgia Tech, along with No. 13 South Carolina, No. 14 East Tennessee State, No. 15 Wake Forest, No. 17 Texas Tech and No. 20 Alabama among others.

Mark Phillips Was Victim In Fatal Hixson Pike Wreck

Mark Phillips, 54, was the victim in a fatal Hixson Pike wreck on Saturday afternoon.
