Signal Mountain Lions To Celebrate 50th Anniversary

A dinner celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Signal Mountain Lions Club will be held Friday, Oct. 3, at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, beginning at 6:30 p.m. All Lions and spouses are invited, by reservation.

The club was organized 50 years ago with the support of Lions from Red Bank and Chattanooga Downtown clubs. Four charter members are still living and will receive special honor at the dinner.

The keynote speaker will be Past International President Austin P. Jennings of Woodbury, Tenn., who was elected president in 1988 of the International Association of Lions Clubs. He has been involved in a number of Lions projects related to sight service and has received a number of awards and honors.

Guest dignitaries who have been invited include Lions District Governor Marvin Keener, Lions Vice District Governor Greg Dingwall, Tennessee State Senator Bo Watson, Tennessee State Representative Richard Floyd, Hamilton County Commissioner Richard Cassavant, Town of Signal Mountain Mayor Paul Hendricks, Town of Walden Mayor Peter Hetzler and Signal Mountain Town Manager Honna Rogers.

Following the dinner, the sponsoring Chattanooga Downtown Lions Club and Red Bank Lions Club will be recognized; presentation to four active charter members and special recognition to other Signal Mountain Lions. A video presentation of highlights of the club will be presented, followed by speeches by District Governor Marvin Keener and Past International President Austin P. Jennings.
