The city and county have agreed to contribute up to $3 million each toward a "green" welcome center for the new Volkswagen plant at the Enterprise South Industrial Park.
The welcome center, which will be a showcase for VW vehicles, will also emphasize the sustainability approach of the Chattanooga area.
The center is expected to cost about $12 million, with Volkswagen paying half.
The welcome center will be visible from Interstate 75 at the new freeway exit to the industrial park.
As part of a VW interlocal agreement, the city and county are to match Volkswagen "dollar for dollar" toward the design and construction of the welcome center.
The city and county also are to collaborate with the company toward "paying for ongoing operating costs."
