County Fair Is Sept. 27-28

Monday, September 08, 2008

The 19th Annual Hamilton County Fair will be held on Sept. 27 and 28 at Chester Frost Park in Hixson. The fair is held on Dallas Island, a 52-acre historic site inside Chester Frost Park.

The County Fair is a mix of live entertainment, animals, food and craft vendors, plus a showcase of community talent. This year will feature the Eudora Farms World of Animals, the Hot Diggity Dog Show, a Cheerleading Competition, a Dance Expo, and a full lineup of equestrian events.

The second annual Little Miss and Mr.

County Fair contest will be held on Sunday, Sept. 28, at 5 p.m. on the Pickin' Porch. Contestants will compete in the provided County Fair T-shirt and their favorite jeans or shorts. Contestants will be judged on appearance and personality. Registration is now open for girls and boys ages three to six. Cost is $25. Contestants may register on-line at www.hamiltontn.gov/fair or on site. The winners will receive a $100 Visa gift card. Registration is limited to the first 50 entries.

The entertainment lineup includes several up and coming musicians including local country music artist, 18-year-old Bo Ladner, who opened for the Kentucky Headhunters earlier this year.

Other fair favorites include the children's area, the cow barn, baby pigs, agricultural demonstrations, home-centered competitions, the island train, and an array of activities and games.

The Fair is open 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Transportation to the fair is provided via bus or boat. Buses will transport fairgoers from Northgate Mall and Middle Valley Recreation Center. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children. The Fat Cat Ferry will deliver patrons from Harrison Bay State Park. Tickets are $7 per person.
