No one was injured in a house fire that caused $20,000 worth of damage Monday night.
The Chattanooga Fire Department received the alarm at 11:41 p.m. Monday and responded to 3101 5th Avenue with several fire companies.
Capt. Steve Swanson with Ladder 5 said flames were visible on one side of the house and on the roof. The firefighters quickly attacked the fire and got the fire out in minutes.
The house was vacant, but a "for rent" sign was posted on the structure.
Capt. Lesley Morgan with the fire investigation division said the fire started on a mattress that was in the kitchen area. Neighbors told firefighters that they had seen people going in and out of the house for the past week. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
