Man Sought For Murder Of Knox Woman Caught In Lookout Valley

Sunday, October 11, 2009

A man sought in the murder of a 76-year-old Knox County woman was arrested while driving her car in Lookout Valley early Sunday morning.

Tracy Fox, 37, has been returned to Blount County, where the body of Wanda Britt was found Saturday by a man riding a trail on a four-wheeler.

Officials of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office received information from both Knox and Blount County Sheriff’s Office regarding the murder suspect who could possibly be in the Hamilton County area.

Hamilton County deputies met with law enforcement officials from both counties and started looking in the Lookout Valley area.

At approximately 4:30 a.m., Fox was found traveling south on Cummings Highway. A traffic stop was initiated and the suspect was taken into custody along with three other people in Mrs. Britt's 2009 Dodge Caliber.

Fox was turned over to the Blount County Sheriff’s Office and transported directly back to the Blount County Jail. The three people in the vehicle were interviewed and released.

The Knox County woman was reported missing on Friday night.

Her body was found Saturday at about 11 a.m. on Quarry Hollow Road in Friendsville.

Authorities said Fox, who is from Sevier County, was seen driving the murdered woman's SUV on Saturday afternoon in Knoxville.

Fox has a criminal record in Sevier County and Knox County, it was stated.
