A 58-year-old Grundy County woman was sentenced Monday to serve 70 months in federal prison for dealing in drugs.
Prosecutor Scott Winnie said Connie Meeks Hampton "was selling a lot of pills and marijuana while carrying a loaded firearm."
He said she was found with 2,000 alprazolam pills and three pounds of marijuana, along with a loaded pistol, at her home on May 12, 2008.
He said she could have faced up to 30 years in prison with all the possible charges against her.
Her attorney said Ms. Hampton has mental issues and has suffered the loss of one husband and two children.
In another case, Troy Lynn Rice was given 10 years for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Judge Sandy Mattice said Rice faced possible sentencing as an armed career criminal, but his attorney, Hilary Hodgkins, found a recent Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that invalidated one of his prior convictions from counting against him.
Prosecutor Winnie said the 40-year-old Rice, nevertheless, has "a terrible criminal history."
