Covenant College junior forward Brian Stair continued his fine run of form Wednesday, scoring three goals against Piedmont College en-route to a 6-0 Covenant victory.

Goals from seniors Ford Quarterman and Derek Wieldraayer, along with an own goal by Piedmont, accompanied Stair's three strikes on the day. The hat-trick marked Stair's 7th, 8th, and 9th goals of the season, and continued his impressive streak of having scored in four of the last five matches.

"Stair has been scoring some good goals for us," said coach Nathan Pifer, "when he's gotten his opportunities, he's taken advantage of them."

Indeed, taking advantage of opportunities has been Stair's mantra lately, coming in as a substitute off the bench to score some key goals for the Scots in crucial matches.

"Anytime you have someone who can step on the field and score goals for you it is helpful," Pifer continued, "I hope his trend continues."

Another trend beginning to emerge on the team is that of clean sheets. Although less prominent in the earlier stages of the season, the defense has been playing strongly as of late, recording shutouts in three of their last four games.

"Shutouts are important," said junior defender Hunt Davidson. "Not only do they keep us in games, but they're good for our confidence, and can be important when it comes time for post-season seeding."

Indeed, post-season play lies just three games away for the Scots, who have only Tennessee Temple, Union College, and Berry College remaining on the regular season schedule. The game with Temple set for Saturday was canceled due to the rainy weather.

If the Scots win out, they will be hoping for the top NCCAA regional seed and the accompanying privilege of hosting the NCCAA regionals on home turf at Scotland Yard.

Meanwhile, the Lady Scots suffered their third loss in four games on Wednesday, falling to #6-ranked Martin Methodist in a contest where they were outshot 14-1 and saw several players battle the injury bug. Most notably among these was sophomore Traci Bone, who had to leave the game early because of a head injury.

Martin Methodist's Shannon Walter and Nicole O'Donnell combined for three first half goals, and second half strikes from O'Donnell, Mor Efraim, and Camilla Hovden put the finishing touches on a 6-0 victory for the home side.

The loss means that the Lady Scots are now 6-6-2 on the season, a record on which they will look to improve as they travel to face Asbury College this Saturday. Following this game, the Lady Scots will travel to face Reinhardt College on Tuesday, before ending the season at home against Berry College on Saturday.
