The historic CSAS girls soccer season came to an end on Saturday afternoon at the hands of the Lady Chargers of CCS. The Lady Chargers out shot CSAS 16-1 and more importantly, outscored them 3-0.
CCS senior Chauncey Simmons scored her third goal off a corner kick in two games after heading in the first goal after a Jennifer Fortmiller corner in the 18th minute.
Another Fortmiller corner was eventually finished by Hannah Farlett after following a save from CSAS keeper Emily Foster. The 2-0 lead lasted through half-time.
Midway through the second half, Anna Hoffman scored on a hard shot from the left side that went over Foster and into the net.
CCS dominated possession though out the game but the Lady Patriots never quit.
With the win, the Lady Chargers qualify for the Class A/AA tournament after not qualifying last year. CCS was second in the region last year and lost in their sub-state game at Station Camp.
"They have a good team," CCS head coach Cal Sneller said of the Lady Patriots. "We thought they were going to get some shots and knew they had some speed but our defense did so well. We knew winning those balls out of the air in the second half would be key and we came out with a lot of energy."
The Lady Patriots reached the sub-state for the first time in girls soccer history at CSAS.
CCS will wait for the release of the A/AA bracket which should be sometime on Sunday. Sneller said they just have to wait and see and get some rest.
"Thursday's game was a mudfest and that took alot of out of us," Sneller said of their region final at Livingston Academy. "We have to get some rest and just wait and see what happens. We know we have to play three good games."
CCS hosts the first two rounds of the Class A/AA tournament on Wednesday and Thursday. Notre Dame and CCS will represent Chattanooga in the A/AA bracket. Quarterfinal games begin at 11 on Wednesday. The Class A/AA championship will be Saturday at GPS.
