Six Local Players Named To Tennessee DII AA Girls All-Region Soccer Team

The Middle/East Region of Division II AA has named its girls all-region soccer team for the 2009 soccer season. Six local girls, including two from Girls Preparatory School and four from Baylor School were named to the team.

Sophomores Simone Busby (goalkeeper) and Mary Woodruff Griffin (defender) of GPS received the honor. Senior Crissa Sanchez (midfielder) and sophomores McKenzie Thomas (forward), Peyton Thomas (midfielder) and Teni Bulter (defender) were named from Baylor.

McKenzie Thomas was also named most valuable player and offensive player of the year.

Jimmy Weekley of Baylor was named co-coach of the year with Robin Dieterich of Father Ryan.

The complete list of the all region team includes Rachel Mayes, Savannah Kegg, Katherine Montessi, Becca Menke, and Katherine Rodriguez of Father Ryan (Nashville); Carrisa Sanchez, McKenzie Thomas, Peyton Thomas, and Teni Butler of Baylor; Leah Loven, Cailin Harris and Anna Steele of Pope John Paul II (Hendersonville); Simone Busby and Mary Woodruff Griffin of GPS; Megan Grindstaff and Catey Hunter of Battle Ground Academy (Franklin); Sarah Sermonet and Molley Johnson of Brentwood Academy (Brentwood); Sarah DeLozier and Lila Davis of Ensworth School (Nashville); and Grace Stumb and Madison Longmire of Harpeth Hall (Nashville).

Leah Loven of Pope John Paul II was named defensive player of the year.


Weather Affects Lee Baseball And Softball This Weekend, Covenant Tennis Postponed

Judge Hollingsworth Rules Littlefield Recall Effort Invalid, Cancels August Mayoral Election

Circuit Court Judge Jeff Hollingsworth on Friday afternoon ruled that the effort to recall Mayor Ron Littlefield was invalid and he canceled a planned special mayoral election in August to replace him.
