East Will Be Coached By Red Bank's Tim Daniels

Thursday, November 19, 2009 - by special report to The Chattanoogan

Twelve Chattanooga-area players have been chosen to participate in the third Toyota East vs. West Tennessee All-Star Football Classic on Dec. 12 at Burke-Tarr Stadium at Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City.

The game, put on by the Tennessee Athletic Coaches Association (TACA) and the Tennessee Toyota Dealers, will feature approximately 90 of Tennessee’s top high school football seniors divided into East and West teams.

Representing the Chattanooga area will be Soddy-Daisy’s Scott Parrott, Red Bank’s Keon Williams, Malcolm Goins, Kevin Fortson and Keith Mayes, McMinn County’s Tevin McDermott and Chris Harris, McCallie’s Paden Gaines, Ooltewah’s John Long, Darion Delaney, Gerald Putnam and Kory Flanders, and South Pittsburg’s Jiajuan Fennell.

Alternates from the Chattanooga area will be Cleveland’s Terrell Parks, McMinn County’s Zack Rayl, South Pittsburg’s Terrell Robinson and Baylor’s Channing Gordon.

The head coach of the East team will be Red Bank’s Tim Daniels. Among his assistants will be Red Bank assistant coach Kenny Cobble, Polk County’s Derrick Davis, Cleveland’s E.K. Slaughter and McCallie’s Rick Whitt.

Several Division I commitments are expected to play in the game, and it will also give other undecided seniors an opportunity to shine in front of college coaches and a state-wide television audience. Players were nominated by their high school coaches.

Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)
