Chattanooga Named Retirement Hotspot

Thursday, November 19, 2009

Chattanooga has been named as a Southern Retirement Hotspot “worth a look” in Tennessee to be featured in the upcoming Jan./Feb./March, 2010 quarterly edition of Retirement Lifestyles, a ten-year-old magazine that highlights locations, communities and lifestyles for prospective retirees across the United States.

Retirement Lifestyles Executive Editor Dan Owens said, “Chattanooga is an outstanding retirement spot and has again made our top retirement towns list because of its amenities. In a nutshell, it’s a college town near the mountains on the Tennessee River with a great downtown and great festivals. In our opinion, Chattanooga is well-suited for the coming age wave and emerging retirement migration.”

“Want an urban location with a small town friendliness in Tennessee? You’ve got to consider Chattanooga,” said Mr. Owens. “A strong medical community is an added plus.”

“This recognition is another confirmation that Chattanooga has the quality of life characteristics people are looking for today,” said Linda Bennett, executive director of Choose Chattanooga, the local relocation initiative promoting the Chattanooga region as a great place to live, work and play.

“Chattanooga is in a distinct position to offer a wide range of amenities be it culture, the arts, affordable housing, business development and lifelong learning opportunities. We strive to be the best mid-size city in America and welcome talented, creative newcomers to be part of those efforts and our community,” said Ms. Bennett.

Retirement Lifestyles magazine focuses on communities and retiree lifestyles in 11 southern states including Tennessee, that are "under the radar” of the national media.

Thoughts On The Mathews Sentencing

It is not by coincidence I haven’t submitted an opinion piece in some time to the Chattanoogan.  The topics I cover are generally vitriolic in regards to local political decisions and their makers regarding public safety and I do not wish to associate my name with more noble subjects such as that of the heroic death and cowardly murder of Chattanooga Police Sergeant Tim Chapin, ... Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)
