The Chattanooga Choral Society for the Preservation of African American Song, CCSPAAS, will feature the release of their first cd, Close to Thee, in a concert Nov. 14 at 5 p.m. at First Baptist Church, located at 506 East 8th Street.
The CCSPAAS is a diverse group of 35 members who share a love of music and a mission to collect, perform and promote the rich heritage of African American songs and composers with special emphasis on the Negro spirituals. From 1990 to 2008, CCSPAAS was directed by Roland Carter. Presently, Mr. Carter serves as music consultant. CCSPAAS is directed by Mrs. Wilma Boykin LeSure and Mr. Michael J. Mitchell, Jr.
